Observations on Magnesium Deficiency in the Rat
ÍÔÎÃéð/Ko, Kwang Wook
Abstract
1. With established magnesium deficiency two separate lesionsl occur in the renal tubule: one is in the proximal convoluted tubule and is primarily a degenerative lesion due to intensive intracellular changes; the second lesion is associated with intrarubular deposition of calcium phosphate and appears to be secondary to this deposition.
2. Charcteristic changes in the pattern of the mucous and goblet cells in the colon are present in the established deficiency state.
3. Previously unreported degenerative changes in voluntary muscle in magnesium deficiency are reported. These are not associated with intracellular potassium deficiency.
4. In spite of the far lower levels of serum magnesium in magnesium deficient rats, muscle analyses did not reveal significant differences from the control.
